Due to the generosity of so many people we were able to take several more kids shopping for shoes. It was their early Christmas presents. One of the boys said “I had shoes on my wish list but just mark that off the list now Mrs. Rae.” They were all very appreciative and I told each of them that their shopping trip was possible due to people supporting the mission of Magnolia Son.
I do not think Magnolia Son supporters realize the difference they make in these kids lives and the needs they are meeting when they buy a t-shirt or make a donation. I thought some “Before” and “After” pictures might help everyone who visits the page know how grateful we are for your support.
As we were walking into the mall I noticed Mr. Cobb the attorney who first helped me with the legal work to form Magnolia Son was ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. I was able to introduce him to some of the children who were benefiting from the organization he helped get off the ground. As we walked out of the mall Mr. Cobb admired the kids’ new shoes and he left them with the parting words…
“Now you go out and do something good for someone today.”
It was a true “Pay it Forward” moment. I hope the boys understood his meaning and one day will offer a helping hand to someone in need to pay the generosity that has been shown to them forward.
None of us got to where we are alone. Whether the assistance we received was obvious or subtle, acknowledging someone’s help is a big part of understanding the importance of saying thank you.….. Harvey Mackay
