I Wish You Enough

Tuesday night we were able to give 63 pairs of shoes to local students to help make their first days of school a little better.  My brother asked the question “What will be your echo?” We continue to strive every day to make Christian’s echo heard…. louder and more true.  Christian would be proud of the smiles I saw on so many children’s faces all because of him and his giving spirit.

And so today I have a wish for all the children we saw Tuesday …… I wish you enough.

May your joys be as bright as the morning, and your sorrows merely

be shadows that fade in the sunlight of love. May you have enough

happiness to keep you sweet, enough trials to keep you strong,

enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to keep you happy,

enough failure to keep you humble, enough success to keep you eager,

enough friends to give you comfort, enough faith and courage in yourself to banish

sadness, enough wealth to meet your needs and one thing more; enough

determination to make each day a more wonderful day than the one before.

Romeo, Romeo Wherefore Art Thou Romeo….

It was a 9th or 10th grade English class. Mrs. Clark was the teacher and Christian was the thorn in her side. Walking into class with no pencil, no paper, no intention of learning one thing. Avery laughed when recalling how he walked into class the first day…. totally unprepared, unconcerned and oblivious to the fact that everyone else was prepared. In his mind, showing up was all he really had to do. Avery or his charm typically took care […]

A BIG Thanks!!

I wanted to express my gratitude to everyone who helped with the fundraiser today and those of you who came out and supported Magnolia Son. Many of you faithfully “show up” every time we have a fundraiser. It is due to your ongoing support that we are able to do the things we do for kids. Below is just a few of the reasons why we do what we do…….

A Life Lived Well

My grandmother passed away this week.  A person who had been so instrumental in not only my life, but my entire family’s life.  Christian loved her dearly.  Reading through some of his texts to me I saw one that caught my attention about our grandmother.  Christian had been considering moving and I was attempting to convince him to move back home.  He reassured me he was not leaving town by stating “You don’t have to worry about me leaving.  As […]

Guardian Angel

I received a few pictures from the Boys & Girls Club today.  The smiles were priceless….. so much like Christian.     “Never travel faster than your guardian angel can fly.” ― Mother Teresa

The Sign

As a small child, probably seven or eight years old, I remember writing a prayer that I would say every night. Over the years it became rote recital of the same words and sentences, almost like listing off the beads on a rosary. At the end of my “recital” I would tack on any new thoughts or concerns that was pertinent to that particular time in my life. But the first seven or eight sentences were always the same….. the […]

Let the Haters Hate

A few days ago the true intent of Magnolia Son was called into question.  There was a statement made that Magnolia Son was formed to overcompensate for my role as a bad parent to Christian.  Initially this bothered me and made me doubt my purpose and goals for Magnolia Son.  So I had a few hours of soul searching and then I remembered something that was long forgotten…… coming home one evening and fussing about a situation at work and […]

I Am Who I Say I Am…

One of the first concerts Christian and I attended was Eminem with Pitbull opening.  That was before anyone knew who Pitbull was.  🙂  I told Christian not to tell anyone I took him to see Eminem because I knew I would win the “Terrible Mother of the Year Award”.  Of course he couldn’t keep his mouth shut so I won that award hands down but I wouldn’t trade those two days for anything.  We made a quick two day trip […]

School Day, School Days….

Christian never loved school but he LOVED entertaining at school and then coming home and telling me about how he made this teacher laugh, or played a joke on this kid or got up on the lunch table and danced for everyone.  There was an endless supply of stories…. half of which were probably greatly exaggerated!! Christian could tell a good tale though. Always making himself the class clown or the life of the party. Some stories Christian didn’t say […]

Have you ever turned the radio on and heard a song for the first time and thought “This song was written for me”?  Every word of the song hitting a chord in your soul that left you smiling or crying or just a little heartbroken.  And then you would play the song over and over just to feel that emotion again and again.   I am envious of those special individuals who can write so well that their emotion becomes […]
