Let’s DO MORE in 2020!!

2020 was an eventful year for Magnolia Son and for Christian.  We gained so many friends and supporters of Magnolia Son and we were able to continue to GIVE which is what Magnolia Son has always been about… continuing to be an extension of Christian and his big heart.  We are hopeful in 2020 Magnolia Son continues to grow and is able to do more for the community.  We always feel the need to “do more”. Our hearts were full […]

Congratulations Gracie Newell!!

I am late in announcing the recipient of the scholarship this year because honestly we just couldn’t decide. In an effort to make the decision less painless, I enlarged our committee thinking a clear favorite would emerge but that didn’t seem to help the situation. Today as I drove home from work I continued to debate back and forth between the top 3 or 4 essays. Honestly, I could have thrown them up in the air and picked one at […]

I Gotcha ….

I have people ask me sometimes why we give shoes away instead of doing some other type of outreach.  I tell them that shoes for kids are not only a need but they are also a want.  There are so many things in life we want but we really don’t need.  Shoes sometimes can fulfill both areas.  I also feel Christian would so appreciate the “giving”.  He was a giver.  He rarely took from people but tended to try and […]

A Day When Something Began

Webster dictionary defines “birthday” as the day that something began.  Twenty six years ago Christian “began”…. He began as this ball of energy, always smiling, mischievious boy and turned into this man who was compassionate, giving, loyal and a son we were so proud of.  He was not perfect but it was some of those imperfections that made him loved by many and at times showcased his true character.  So we celebrate every year Christian’s “beginning”.  We call it Christian’s […]

Writing the Next Chapter

This year we had a very difficult time deciding an essay winner. There were so many well written papers that captured the spirit of Magnolia Son’s motto of Live Life Large but more importantly captured bits and pieces of Christian. Our 10 person panel reviewed each essay and a lot of time was spent going back and forth about which essay was “the best”. At the end of the day we couldn’t definitively say one was better than another. It […]

Scholarship Time!!!

Another year has rolled by and it is that time again!! Time to put your thinking hats on and show us what you have learned over the past 12 years.  We will be awarding a $5000 college scholarship to a Lauderdale County graduate.  The deadline to submit your essay will be April 30th with the scholarship being awarded May 10th.  We are excited to read your essays and hear your big plans for the future.  We will be asking applicants […]

2018 ….. Another Chance to Get It Right

2017 gave us some good days as well as some bad but the constant “bright spot” throughout the year was Magnolia Son.  Whether it was the School Kick  Off shoe give away or the individual moments at the Crossings giving shoes to kids with limited resources or support we continued to always work to “do more”.  We made our goal of providing 150 pair of shoes to children in need.  It came down to the wire but on December 30th […]

I Wish You More….

I posted the old Irish tale of “Wishing you Enough” in an earlier post. At the end of the day that marks Christian’s 25th birthday I think it would be more appropriate to “wish him more”. Not an Irish folk tale but a universal tale for orphaned mothers. A tale of an infant’s first smiles and tears, a toddler’s first steps and falls, a child’s school plays and holiday excitement, a teenager’s first loves and boyish pranks. A tale cut […]

This year the end of school slipped up on me.  I almost waited too long to meet with the coaches to discuss their plans for attending football camp this Summer.  I made an appointment with Coach Bynum at Quitman High School to meet this past Monday.  Of course I was running late and sent him a text letting him know I would be 5 or 10 minutes late.  There was no response. Honestly I thought Coach Bynum had probably forgot. […]

We are excited to annouce the essay winner for the Christian Shane Andreacchio Memorial Scholarship for 2017!!!  We had a difficult time choosing a “winner” from the essays submitted.  There were several who came in a close second and we want to thank all the Seniors who submitted an essay for consideration. We wish we could award a scholarship to everyone but unfortunately we had to choose just one!! It is on days like today that I wonder what Christian […]
